Wi-Fi 6E and Identity-Based Access on a University Campus

1,150 access points across 42 buildings; student and staff sign-in with authentication, eduroam compatible.

A foundation university with around 28,000 students had insufficient Wi-Fi in classrooms and dormitories at peak times. The system was overloaded during student registration periods.

Solution

Coverage and capacity measurements were taken for 42 buildings and 1,150 Wi-Fi 6E access points were positioned. Corporate identity (SSO) and 802.1X were used for sign-in; separate networks were defined for guests and IoT devices. A high-density profile and schedule-based bandwidth management were applied in classrooms.

Results

  • Average per-user speed from 18 Mbps to 140 Mbps
  • Peak-hour connection failure rate from 4.2% to 0.3%
  • Device registration in dormitories was automated
  • The summer break window was used; teaching was never disrupted
